PHOTO GALLERY: Arak and Tuak Distillery in Rural Bali
Arak and Tuak are Bali’s locally brewed spirits, both made from toddy palm tree juice. Some distilleries are legally registered and adhere to regulations. Smaller, private distilleries which are owned and operated by local residents, also flourish around rural Bali. I was privy to visit one such local distillery.
The arak and tuak distillation process is quite fascinating as is the construction of the distilleries themselves. Read my article Arak and Tuak- Bali’s Locally Brewed ‘Moonshine’ to learn more.
Alternately, check out these 12 photos of a local distillery for a quicker snapshot of the process and conditions of making both arak and tuak.
