PHOTO GALLERY: LIFE IN RURAL BALI PHOTOS

In great contrast to the traffic-clogged, over-developed tourist regions in south Bali, most of Bali still consists of small villages and towns with people who continue going about their daily lives much like they have for centuries.

Many people still live in simple unfinished cement houses or thatched homes with dirt yards and farm animals.  Traditional professions prevail: rice cultivation, vegetable farming, animal breeding, fishing, salt-making, and so on. Other people own small groceries, food or drink stalls.

Balinese Hinduism pervades all aspects of life. It entails a never-ending stream of ceremonies, preparations, and expensive clothing & decorations.  All in all, most Balinese live a simple life, close to nature.

These 60 photos depict many aspects of daily life in rural Bali.  See how the other 90% of Bali lives !
