My Best Travel Portraits

( SEE My Travel Portraits )

My two main interests while traveling the world are nature & outdoor adventures and arts & culture. Not surprisingly, then, I primarily take photos of the great outdoors, temples & architecture, festivals & events and the arts & handicrafts of the countries I visit.

I tend to photograph people much less frequently.

So I was quite surprised recently, while searching through thousands of my archived photos, to find many photos of people. People going about their daily lives, working in fields, bustling around markets, selling merchandise, relaxing with friends, attending festivals and ceremonies, and even directly posing for me.

After all, I have been traveling since 1998, so I’m bound to end up with some portraits and shots of people in action. More than I thought, in fact.

Right now I’m taking two Travel Photography Courses at Matador U, so I’m slowly analyzing thousands of my best archived photos. Analyzing them for focus, composition, exposure, editing techniques and other important aspects of great photography. Analyzing them to figure out what I most need to work on and what I’m doing well.

Since I’ve already gathered hundreds of my best photos by categories for this task, I decided that I may as well use the opportunity to create a few more photo galleries. To that end, here’s my first such gallery: portraits of local people.
