PHOTO GALLERY: LONGHUA TEMPLE- SHANGHAI
China is in a mad race to catch up with the western world in terms of economic prosperity and modern lifestyle. Amidst all the fury, probably the most modern-obsessed city in all of China is Shanghai. As a result, most of the city’s beautiful traditional architecture, temples, neighborhoods, and culture have been obliterated.
Fortunately, a few enclaves of traditional buildings still exist, scattered about the city. One such gem, Longhua Temple, still preserves China’s exotic stately temple architecture. Marvel at delicately curved tile roofs, golden walls, ornate carvings and elegant corridors in this photo gallery of shots I took while living in Shanghai in 2008.
QUESTIONS:
Have you been to Shanghai?
If so, what’s your favorite temple or traditional neighborhood there?
If not, do you have a favorite temple somewhere? Which, where and why do you love it?
