Important Equipment You Need For Your Horse

Horses are beautiful, majestic, and strong creatures that require constant care and nurturing. The decision to look after one needs to come with a sturdy bank balance as it can be pretty costly, and they aren’t pets that you can travel with. You will need to have a few basic essentials in place to look after their glorious wellbeing. These include a dressage bridle, saddle with girth, helmet, feeding essentials, and grooming essentials.

Dressage Bridle

These are generally used for the easement of the horse while riding. Sometimes after a long riding session or bruising in the mouth area, the horses need something to protect this area somewhat. The dressage bridle also helps with horse navigation, but this needs to be done as gently and skillfully as possible to eradicate the horse’s acceptance of being led.

Saddle With Girth

Some adventurous riders carry on without this essential piece of equipment, but honestly, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. The girth is one of many sure ways to firstly not fall off your saddle while riding, get a comfortable ride without the saddle shifting out of position, and lastly, provide some comfort in the experience for both rider and horse. It holds the saddle firmly in place and connects it from both sides. Your standard girth has basic leather straps and is commonly about 4.9 inches, but the most favored is 6 – 6.5 inches. Some of them have had additional attributes like elastic and buckles added to them for further comfort and user-friendliness instead of just the leather straps.

Helmet

The helmet is more for the rider’s safety than anything. Any injuries due to the fall can cause catastrophic injuries to the head from concussions, brain damage, or life-threatening injuries. It is, however, not against the law to ride without a helmet even though it is hazardous and considered by some to be reckless. Even though these are meant for the rider’s safety, they have also become fashion statements and come with all sorts of designs.

Feeding Essentials

The first port of call towards a healthy diet for a horse is to ensure a consistent supply of water, carbs or fatty foods, vitamins, minerals, and of course, protein. It takes anything from two to three days for a horse to fully digest food, so because of the quantity of food consumed, high amounts of roughage are required to help keep it regular.

Grooming Essentials

Besides bringing calmness to their being, constant brushing of a horse keeps the fur looking shiny, smooth, and clean. But there is a whole grooming kit that follows this that almost replicates that of a human being. You will need the right brushes, shampoos, and conditioners for them, among other things like grooming gloves, body scrapers, curved scrapers, and hoof picks. All these come together to put forward a well-groomed, clean horse.

It is quite a responsibility to own a horse and needs the right staff complemented by tools and apparatus to make sure they are well-bred and looked after.
