Places to visit in South Carolina
If you’re planning on visiting the Palmetto State, perhaps to eat some grits, pick some peaches, or spot a white-tailed deer, you’ll be pleased to know that there is so much to see and do.
Remember, when you’re traveling somewhere new, it’s essential to be extra careful and know who to call if something goes wrong. For example, if you fall and need to find a Greenville slip and fall accident attorney, you can find one here.
Charleston’s Historic District
The Charleston Historic District has a lot to offer. Several homes can be toured, such as the Aiken-Rhett House and the Nathaniel Russell House. Be sure to check out the Old Slave Mart Museum to get a real feel of the area’s rich history and watch the Charleston City Market’s basket ladies weave. There are plenty of walking tours or jump in a carriage to see the area in full, including the stunning pastel houses of Rainbow Row.
South Carolina State Museum
If you still want to know more about the state’s history, this is the largest museum in the area and spans across four floors. Learn about South Carolina’s history, culture and art, and science and technology, all with interactive exhibitions that will capture the imagination of the young and old alike.
Myrtle Beach
The glorious sands of Myrtle Beach are not to be missed! Not only can you simply soak up the sun (and the atmosphere!) you can also check out the views from the Myrtle Beach Sky Wheel, or go for a browse around the incredible Broadway at the Beach – the largest shopping and entertainment venue in South Carolina. This area also boasts movie theatres, an Aquarium, mini-golf, and even rides.
Hilton Head Island
If you’re looking for something a bit more laid-back and quiet, head to Hilton Head Island instead of Myrtle Beach. You can still enjoy shopping and dining, and a gorgeous beach, but also check out the bicycling trails too. Head up to the Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge to spend a few hours spotting a variety of different creatures, including some rare species.
Huntington Beach State Park
If you’re an animal lover or a keen bird watcher, this is the place to go. There are over 300 species of birds that frequent the park, and alligators are often spotted in the lake. If you’re also an art fan, there is the Atalaya Arts and Crafts Festival held in September too.
This is to say nothing of the Dupont Planetarium, the several zoos (head to Riverbanks Zoo and Garden for the African Plains exhibit featuring giraffes, zebras, and lions!), and various state parks including Caesars Head State Park with the tallest waterfall in South Carolina. So whether you’re looking for a day of shopping and beach relaxation, somewhere to bathe in natural waters, or want to know more about the local history, there is something for you in South Carolina.
