There’s no such thing as a dull day in Florida. It’s hot climate and vast natural wonders leave you with no shortage of things to do on holiday here. Want to experience views that’ll make your jaw drop and animals that will make you feel that little bit warmer and fuzzy inside? Or would you rather kick back on a beach with a good book and bask in the oceanic views?

Whatever your preference, a holiday in Florida can be a unique way to enjoy the vast landscapes here. With that in mind, let me tell you about one of America’s flagship destinations…

Outdoor activities in Florida

Feeling adventurous? Outdoor activities such as sky diving and sea kayaking are a thrilling way to see the state from an entirely different perspective. After all, what beats a gliding with a panoramic view from 10,000 feet? Not much, I can tell you that for sure. If you’re staying in Orlando, the state’s capital, there are several diving agencies which offer reasonably priced rates. They’re professionals, so they’ll make the jump as easy as a blissful walk in the park. Albeit, if parks had unbeatable aerial views…

Beaches in Florida

After a short drive to the East Coast, you’ll come across Cocoa Beach. The Atlantic currents have established it as a seasoned hot-spot for surfers and boogie boarders. If you’re travelling with kids, this is a sure-fire way to keep them out of your hair and having fun. Even if you’re not, the waves here are enough to tempt anyone into the water.

Further north, there’s the activity-packed Daytona Beach, a hotbed of attractions that’ll keep you busy till sundown. Beach boating, parasailing, historic river cruises, or even snorkelling – you name it, they’ve got it covered. It’s an hours drive each way from Orlando, so if you’re looking to make the most of your Floridian adventure then pay it a visit.

National parks in Florida

Venturing inland, we’ve got the Ocala National Forest. Scenery-wise, the forest is a million miles from the inviting waters of the coasts, but that’s not to say you’ll not love it. It’s made up of a selection of sand pines, evergreen oaks, rivers and over 600 lakes! Tourists flock here in the summer months to dive in the glistening springs and unwind by the trees. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some wild egrets.

When most people think of relaxing on holiday, lakes and trees aren’t the first things which spring to mind. But if you want to get to know the real Florida and recharge your holiday batteries, this is a must.

Are you a nature-fiend? If so, you’ve come to the perfect place. Boggy Creek, near Orlando, is home to some of the most exotic birds you’ll find in America. The anhinga, or snake bird as it’s sometimes known, is native to these waters.

Keep your eyes peeled, and you might even see the Floridian alligator in its natural environment. Take an air-boat around the swamps and enjoy this once in a lifetime to observe this vicious predator – just keep your hands where you can see them.

From forest-filled national parks, to diving out of planes or scuba diving, Floridian holidays attract both adventurers and beach-goers alike. There’s your itinerary: Now go get ’em!

Visit St Petersburg

Still got it in you for another adventure? Then let’s take a boat trip from St Petersburg. Speeding through the Tampa Bay, while a seaward breeze washes over you, should be on everyone’s bucket-list.

The great thing about Florida is that it’s easy to experience both the Atlantic Coast and the Gulf Coast, all in the space of a day or two. Both waters are a different kettle of fish from one another, and you’ll love them both in equal ways.
