LashWorldTour NEWS: My Guest Post is on HikeBikeTravel
Lovely Leigh McAdam invited me to guest post on her aptly named travel blog, HikeBikeTravel. As you can tell from the title, Leigh and I have a lot in common!
For her travel adventure site, I’ve written the story of my solo ascent of volcanic Mt Semeru on Java, Indonesia. Semeru is Java’s highest peak at 3676 M / 12,100 ft. It’s the second most sacred mountain to Indonesia’s Hindhus and also one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes. It still randomly spews out toxic sulfuric fumes. The peak is fairly remote, accessed by a tiny village in the mountains of central Java. As a result of its rather inaccessible location and its dangers, very few people choose to climb Mt. Semeru. Fewer of those are westerners. And not many at all choose to climb the stark mountain solo.
As for me, I travel solo, so what’s a girl to do? When I read that Mt. Semeru is Java’s highest peak, I was dead-set on climbing. So off I went…
