The Natural Beauty of South Island New Zealand
SEE Photos of South Island New Zealand here
I just completed an extensive 3-month trip around New Zealand’s stunning South Island. World-famous for its spectacular nature, the island features a mind-boggling diversity of topographies and natural features.
Easily-accessed glaciers and fjords draw tourists from around the globe, as do high snow-covered mountains, dramatic coastlines, rolling green pastures, long golden beaches, native New Zealand forests, rain forests and several acclaimed multi-day hikes through NZ’s most stunning national parks.
I explored South Island from the top at Marlborough Sounds and Abel Tasman National Park before heading down the scenic west coast to Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers. I continued southward through the most dramatic high mountain ranges around Haast Pass, Wanaka and Queenstown.
From there I went further south to Te Anau, where I toured famous Milford Sound. From there I turned east to Dunedin and made my way slowly up the east coast to Christchurch, visiting many sites along the way. During my travels I completed three great multi-day hikes, including two of NZ’s nine ‘Great Walks’ and marveled at many very beautiful sites.
This photo gallery presents my collection of 48 photos of South Island’s remarkable natural wonders. I hope they will inspire you to visit New Zealand, perhaps even help you choose where to go when you reach beautiful South Island. Enjoy!
Cheers, Lash
