Remote Little Andaman Island – India

Part of the Andaman & Nicobar Island Archipelagos, under the administration of India, Little Andaman Island is the southernmost island in the Andaman Chain and the most remote island accessible by outside visitors. From the capital town of Port Blair, a 6-8-hour ferry or a 30-minute helicopter ride will land visitors on Little Andaman’s pristine shores.

gorgeous shore lined by magnificent trees

Blanketed almost entirely by primary tropical forest, Little Andaman is home to crocodile, wild pigs, a plethora of birds, bats, reptiles and other small mammals. A few scattered Indian villages, betel palm & coconut plantations and indigenous tribal villages are the only human encroachments on the pristine island.

The gorgeous island is lined by long, sweeping empty beaches and rocky coastal stretches. The interior is packed tight with dense forest with many rivers, waterfalls, and small lakes.

Nowadays, a few small simple bungalow resorts offer rooms and meals to adventurous travelers. Once there visitors can enjoy quiet beaches & forests, visit waterfalls and a small lake, rent a motorbike or bicycle, chat with locals, and relax amidst pristine tropical nature.

In late 2013-early 2014 I enjoyed two weeks of near solitude surrounded by trees, sky, beaches and forests. The experience is amazing for nature lovers like myself.

I hope you enjoy these 20 photos of gorgeous Little Andaman Island from my recent visit.
