NEWS: I’m Back Online After My 1-Month Off-grid Vacation!
Happy New Year 2014 Everyone!
I’ve just returned to Malaysia from my 3-month trip through India and, most recently, my ‘forced’ 1-month off-grid vacation in the remote Indian Andaman Islands. I say ‘forced’ because I wasn’t actually intending to go off-line during my entire travels through the pristine Andamans. I literally had no choice.
Once I arrived in the capital town of Port Blair in early December, I found out how ultra-slow and unreliable internet connections are way out there. And Port Blair has the ‘best’ connections in the archipelago. The particular islands I planned to visit have zero internet presence at all!
So I had to nix my plan of publishing island photos and travel updates ‘live’ from location… and go on vacation instead. Yeah!
I must admit that I wasn’t too terribly disappointed at the prospect. As it turned out, three weeks filled with day after day of completely free time did me a world of good.
I even surprised myself by not having one single urge to write a story or edit a sole photo. Obviously I needed a break from my never-ending blogging work, without even realizing it. As the saying goes, ‘Sometimes things happen for a reason’.
I spent my three-week islands vacation entirely surrounded by nature: tropical forests, beaches, ocean, waterfalls and lakes. I cycled quiet roads, strolled long empty beaches, swam, got blasted by ocean waves, snorkeled, suntanned, watched sunsets and enjoyed other island explorations.
I read books, watched DVDs and chatted with other travelers. I ate heaps of delicious Indian food and masala chai (spiced milk tea).
My very best experience, though, was riding a helicopter from Port Blair to Little Andaman Island, a 30 minute journey. In fact, that was actually my Top #1 experience of my entire 3-month trip through India.
Next week I’m writing a more in depth post about the Andaman Islands. If you’re interested in remote tropical islands, stay tuned!
Meanwhile, I’ve ‘settled’ myself back in Penang, Malaysia for the time being. It’s time to buckle down work again! Happily, after such a long, relaxing break, I’m finding it extremely enjoyable catching up with everyone on FB, editing Andaman Island photos, writing travel tales & tips, reviewing 2013 for LashWorldTour and gearing up for 2014. I have some exciting new projects in development, which I’ll be announcing soon.
Coming up this month are more photos, stories and tips from the Andamans and India as well as ‘The Best of LashWorldTour 2013’ in photos, tips and travel tales.
Great to be back! Let’s have a fantastic 2014 everyone!
Cheers, Lash
