PHOTO GALLERY: Beautiful Mosques Around SE Asia
Most countries in SE Asia are predominantly Buddhist, while maintaining laws for freedom of religion. Therefore, scattered throughout each country are people of many other faiths, including Christians, Muslims and Hindus among others.
On the other hand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei are three predominantly Muslim countries located in the region. They also legally practice freedom of religion.
With three essentially Islamic countries and scattered Muslim communities throughout the area, you’ll find plenty of beautiful mosques while traveling through SE Asia. Architecture, detailing, color, ornamentation and scale vary tremendously. Large, stately ornate mosques grace many cities and towns while small modest mosques often serve villages and rural areas.
You’ll find regal gilded domes and domes of brilliant blue, stark white, yellow, green and red. Graceful turrets stretch skyward. Spacious prayer halls fill the interiors.
This photo gallery presents a collection of over a dozen mosques that I’ve visited around SE Asia over the years. Please enjoy!
cheers, Lash
