Journey Along the Ayerarwady River
The grand Ayerarwady River is the Nile or Amazon of Myanmar. It’s swift brown waters run nearly the entire length of the nation, eventually emptying into the Indian Ocean near Yangon, Myanmar’s capital city.
For most of its length, people go about their traditional daily lives in tiny thatched villages and small towns, barely touched by the modern world.
Bright gilded temples, forests, grassy plains and tall sand banks line the river, creating an ever-changing panorama. All sorts of boats ply the tricky currents of the Ayerarwady, taking passengers and cargo to & fro.
A leisurely boat trip along the vast Ayerarwady is a trip back in time and a peaceful, serene experience.
In this photo gallery I present 24 images from my 4-day journey along the mighty Ayerwaday River.
