Mannheim Madness – Time Warp 2013

Now that winter is truly over it’s time to start planning to attend all the great spring and summer dance music festivals. Nothing comes sooner or better than the Mannheim edition of Time Warp. Grab a few mates, check the Euro currency exchange online and buy a decent backpack as tickets are priced at a mere €60.

The Time Warp electronic music festival is an annual event featuring many of the kings and queens of electronic dance music.  Since its emergence in 1994 guests have included DJ Rolando, Kevin Saunderson and Orbital.

This year’s Time Warp line up consists of past guests and global superstars Laurent Garnier, Carl Cox, Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice, Luciano and Ricardo Villalobos. They’re returning alongside established artists Hector, Tanzmann and Pan-Pot. This huge collective of House and Techno giants is not to be missed for any dance music fan.

If the superb line up and bargain price tag isn’t enough to make you reach into your wallet and start entering your bank details into the official Time Warp ticket site then maybe a brief description of Mannheim city centre will.

Post and prior Time Warp you’ll find yourself in a city quite unlike typical German cities. The city’s grid layout resembles North American cities, giving Mannheim its nickname, “City of Squares”. It features the Markplatz (Market Place) where tourists can purchase authentic German produce and souvenirs, perfect gifts for those friends back home who are kicking themselves for not attending.

If you’re eager to get a taste of the House and Techno vibes that locals enjoy then look no further than Loft Club. Past guests have included Mathias Tanzmann, Catz ‘n Dogz and Magma, to name a few. Loft Club has regular bookings submitted to Resident Advisor and is Mannheim’s leading outlet for electronic dance music.

Best of all though, a short car drive from Mannheim will take you to Frankfurt which boasts a huge slew of electronic music artists and clubs. Many Time Warp festival-goers take the atmosphere with them to carry on the party at neighbouring Frankfurt, often extending their trip for up to seven days with a whole new spectrum of clubbing at their disposal. In Frankfurt you’ll find legendary clubs Robert Johnson, 60311, Tanzhauswest and Monza.
