PHOTO GALLERY: Tonsai Beach – Krabi – Thailand
Krabi and Phang Nga Provinces in southern Thailand are renowned for their stunning limestone karst rock formations, cliffs and craggy islands jutting up from the tropical Andaman Sea on Thailand’s west coast. One of the most gorgeous spots of all is the Railay – Tonsai – Pranang Peninsula near Krabi town.
Rock climbers began taking advantage of the excellent rock formations in Krabi Province over two decades ago, slowly bolting more and more climbing routes into the stunning rock cliffs. The heart of this rock climbing world in Thailand is the Railay / Tonsai / Pranang penninsula.
Today over 500 routes of varying difficulty offer endless challenges to rock climbers from all over the world, who flock to Tonsai as much for the beauty, laid-back atmosphere, alternative lifestyle and tropical climate as for Tonsai’s hard climbing work outs.
But the peninsula’s spectacular scenery also draws more mainstream travelers, who visit to admire the amazing limestone formations, glistening white beaches and calm waters. The peninsula is a paradise for climbers and non-climbers alike.
I’ve made Tonsai my home away from home off and on since 2000. Over the years, I’ve immersed myself in rock climbing, learned scuba diving to pro level, taught diving, helped out at climbing schools, and even run my own cafe/bakery one season. Needless to say, Tonsai holds a special places in my heart.
This photo gallery presents 36 images of Tonsai’s stunning scenery, climbing scene, alternative lifestyle and Thailand’s distinctive longtail boats.
Come see why Tonsai is a paradise on Earth, one of my favorite spots in the whole world.
