MY VISIT TO CAMBODIA OVERVIEW
In Dec 2003, after traveling through Vietnam for 6 weeks, I crossed the border into Cambodia. I visited the capital, Phnom Pehn, the coastal beach area of Sihanoukville, and the famous ancient temples of Angkor Wat near the town of Siem Riep.
Cambodia was not my favorite country! I did not enjoy the sense of danger, an aggressive encounter with an motorcycle taxi in Sihanoukville, and tales of violent encounters by travellers. In addition, because the horrible Khmer Rouge wiped out nearly 90% of the country’s arts, architecture, intellectuals, monks and millions of citizens, there’s not much artistic or cultural beauty left to admire.
I was happy to shorten my trip through Cambodia to just 2 weeks. I will, however, readily proclaim Angkor Wat and Siem Riep as wonderful destinations.
During my trip, I wrote posts on Phnom Phen, Sihanoukville, and Angkor Wat, which I will re-edit and publish soon.
cheers, Lash
