TRAVEL TIP: FREE GUIDED TOURS AT MALAYSIA NATIONAL MUSEUM
Discover Malaysia’s unique history and culture during free, one-hour guided tours of Malaysia National Museum, Muzium Negara, in Kuala Lumpur.
Tours are conducted by trained volunteer guides, consisting of a dedicated group of Malaysians and expatriates who are eager to share Malaysia with visitors. Tour guides don’t follow a set script but focus on different topics to suit the interests of their guests, making each tour unique. Some topics you might learn about during your tour:
Archeaology: Discover hundreds of ceramics salvaged from shipwrecks dotted around the country. Learn about skeletal remains of Perak Man, one of the most significant archaeological finds in this part of the world.

Textiles: Find out how Malaysian textiles have been enriched by traders from all over the world, starting more than 600 years ago. Examine unique weavings from the diverse native tribes of Sabah and Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo.
Colonial history: Learn which European colonial started Malaysia’s first coconut plantation, who first mined for tin, what Spanish colonials contributed to Malaysia’s development, and other intriguing historic facts.
Government: Get enlightened about Malaysia’s unique system of kingship, which was created during Malaysia’s independence. In 2012, Malaysia will be getting her 14th king- the Sultan of Kedah state, who has been king before. Find out how he and Malaysia’s previous 13 kings were elected.

If you’re at all interested in history or culture, visit Muzium Negara and join a free guided tour whenever you’re in Kuala Lumpur.
Guided tours start daily at 10 am in several languages, as follows:
English- everyday except Fridays & Sundays
French- on Tuesdays & Thursdays
Japanese- on Thursdays and the 3rd Saturday of every month
Mandarin and Malay- on Saturdays during Malaysian school holidays
There is no need to pre-register for the regularly scheduled tours. Just drop in and wait near the Museum ticket counter a few minutes before the scheduled tours in your preferred language.
Guided tours in other European languages – Dutch, German, Danish, Spanish, Russian and Polish – are also available on request, thanks to the efforts of a strong expatriate community.
Custom-tailored tours can also be arranged for schools, embassies and companies.
